Stretching for around two miles on its busiest day, which is a Saturday, (especially in the afternoon); the market operates on Portobello Road throughout the week and has stalls for everything from antiques to fresh fruit and vegetables.
If markets are of a particular interest and you visit Portobello Market on the Saturday, then you should head to Old Spitalfields Market on the Sunday. Similar to the Portobello equivalent, Old Spitalfields Market is open throughout the week but is especially popular on a Sunday and has been on the same site, selling fresh food produce, since 1638, making it both an interesting and historic part of a London break.
A popular sight for many is Hyde Park on a Sunday, when dozens of local artists display their work outside of the park on the north side, on the pavement on Bayswater Road. Particularly beautiful if driving past, the real beauty comes when taking a stroll through Hyde Park and finishing at Bayswater Road, where you should walk down the road and take in the wonderful pieces of art that are decorating the pavement.
If a musical production is something that you are interested in, then either a Friday or Saturday production, of which a matinee option is very often apparent on the Saturday, is strongly advised, as the atmosphere that surrounds the theatres at these times is fantastic.
With the city streets bustling and the mood jovial, all of the workers appear jubilant to have finished another week at work and that happiness is exuded to all of the many tourists who are seeing the sights of the city.
London is absolutely brimming with sights and attractions meaning that a London break will never be dull, boring or uneventful and with enough preparation, it can be busy, eclectic and absolutely wonderful. With enough major places to visit for several full weekends, without beginning to take into consideration the smaller but just as popular attractions, a weekend London break is always recommended to all.
