In a country of party lovers, the Valencians are probably the most party-loving of them all. In fact, the city was famous the world over for its ruta del bakalao, which were similar to rave houses lining the nation's main highways. These were places that really kicked ass where live music and vibrant dance were concerned, thus, their popularity with the students.

Nowadays, however, the bars and pubs offering similar fares of enjoyment are concentrated in specific areas of Valencia. Said areas are often specific in their clientele too – the Carmen area hosts a high concentration of bohemian bars and nightclubs, the Blasco Ibanez and Benimaclet areas cater to the student population and the Canovas and Joan Llorens areas are more mainstream in their weekend nightlife offerings. And Valencia being a beachside city on the Mediterranean, it cannot be helped if there are nightclub venues on the beach and at the port.
No matter the pubs and bars you visit on your many nights in Valencia, we recommend Agua Valencia. It is the unofficial cocktail of the city made of orange juice, gin, vodka, cava or champagne and a pinch of sugar, which is then served in a pitcher for sharing with friends.
And lest you think that Agua Valencia is a soft drink, so to speak, think again. It is comparable to drinking absinthe in Prague, meaning that you need a strong stomach. Are you ready for it?
Agua Valencia is not all there is to Valencian pubs and bars, however. Beer is also available in copious if expensive quantities along with a variety of internationally-known and locally-concocted drinks and cocktails. You can become wasted in Valencia if you are not too careful with your drinks, that’s for sure.
And of course, don’t forget the tapas! These are various meats and vegetables skewered in little sticks although you can just take your pick from a plate, all of which are meant to serve as appetizers before the main meal or as accompaniment to your drink. A party in Spain is not complete with something to munch on, after all!
Just like other cities, the pubs and bars in Valencia are very busy at certain times of the week. If you really want to party with plenty of people, then Saturday is the busiest day with parties lasting until 7 in the morning. Wednesdays through Fridays are busy, too, especially with Erasmus night and traditional party night in the Aragon area.
Still, let it not be said that Valencia is asleep the rest of the week because there are bars and pubs that offer a variety of entertainment options for the whole week. Indeed, the city is one big party, day in and day out!
For the pinnacle of the party experience in Valencia, then Las Fallas festival is the place and time to be. It is the time when the city and its people burst up in flames of fervor, fireworks and party, unrivalled even by the best party scenes anywhere in the world.
A word of advice: Before going to Valencia for the las fallas, be sure that you have booked your holiday apartment in an online reservations site. The place will be crawling with tourists and you want rooms to rest in while the rest of the hoard wanders around looking for a room, any room.
