Canada is known for its open land, and endless railway tracks running through seemingly endless woodland and frosty landscape. However are these not the things that we love so much about Canada? There are tours that we can embark on that quite simple take us from the middle of Canada to the west or east coast, there are even some that go from one coast to the other. Along the way you would stop off at certain towns or sites to enjoy the view, or to visit famous landmarks. So what sort of thing can we expect to see on one of these escorted tours?

So let’s take a tour that I actually do know a thing or two about because I last went on it about 3 weeks ago. The Western Explorer is an escorted tour that takes you from Calgary to the west coast into Vancouver. The tour starts as you arrive in Calgary, where you will spend your first day. You don’t really get that much time here and there is a lot to see; basically I recommend just travelling all the way around this Stampede City, if you are lucky enough to catch a rodeo show, make sure you watch. Next up on your second day you end up travelling to Banff where you will be offered a helicopter flight to the summit of Kananaskis, which I seriously recommend, this is an amazing view of the Rocky Mountains, where you then can enjoy a lunch at one of the local ranches. Then you return to the Caribou Lodge where you stay overnight ready for your next days travel.

On your third day you move on to Lake Louise at the Yoho National Park. The waters a secularly clear and the lake is surrounded by many natural wonders. You are then treated to wonderful walk around the shoreline of this lake and a stay at the Lakes very own Fairmont Chateau. Then it is on to Jasper, where you get the option of several tours, without a doubt take the wildlife safari. You get to see some amazing animals; you get picked up from your hotel and dropped off again. This part of the tour takes up two days. Then on your sixth day you move on to Kamloops, which is my favourite part of the journey, traversing some of the Rocky Mountains to the divide between the river valleys and the Caribou Mountains. You are then taken over Yellowhead pass which also offers some truly wonderful views.

On your final day you travel to Vancouver, which is one of Canada’s largest cities, and probably the most famous, I arrived just at the start of the winter Olympics. Although my day would be different to yours there is still so much to do here. It is quite different to the rest of your tour; the main point is that you emerge out of lush green lands into a bustling snowy city. Another spectacular sight!
