Sydney has been acclaimed as one of the best cities to visit and inhabit amongst all the major cities of the world. It is home to the most Australian of landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbor Bridge. There are many other neighborhoods to visit in the city and the following are amongst the best in the best city in the world, Sydney.
Sydney, the City. This is the nerve center of the city and is just a stone’s throw away from Darling Harbor. This address is the prime location for major local as well as international companies that power the Australian economy. The ultimate shopping destination in this area is the Rocks while a walk on Darling Harbor would surely remove one’s stress and rekindle love under its spell.
The Inner East. The main landmark of this neighborhood is the giant Coca-Cola sign. This is mainly a suburban area namely King’s Cross, Surry Hills, Woolloomooloo, Darlinghurst and Paddington. This is one of the most active nightlife areas in the city, the bohemian capital of the region.
The Inner South. This region comprises Redfern, Everleigh, Waterloo and Alexandria. The area is now in the state of repair and renewal but retains its old neighborhood charm. One of the best places is Danks Street Depot in Waterloo and other factory outlet stores located all over the area. Tourists though need to be wary of Redfern as it is considered one of the “bad” neighborhoods in Sydney.
Inner West. This was the former blue collar district of Sydney but over the years, it has assimilated areas such as cafes and restaurants, making it one of the culinary centers of the city. It is akin to Greenwich Village in New York with a thriving Italian population centered on Leichardt. Other must see places are the fashion shops and boutiques located in Balmain.
The Eastern Suburbs. This is the place where the affluent call home. The homes are amongst the best with inner beaches such as Redleaf Pool and Double Bay. Other places that need to be seen when in this neighborhood are Nielsen Park and Watson Bay. The best way to enjoy this area is through the Circular Quay Ferry that tours the city by the water.
The Eastern Beaches. Bondi, Coogee, Bronte and Maroubra are world famous beaches located in Sydney. These beaches are the known tourist destinations of the city and are the best places to get fun in the sun in a laid back and relaxed Aussie atmosphere.
