San Diego has long been considered one of the finest cities in the United States. When you visit the beautiful city of San Diego, you will quickly see why it has earned this title. In San Diego, you can see everything from the sparkling blue waters of the Pacific Ocean to stunning mountain ranges and valleys with breathtaking views of San Diego. Consider some of the following viewpoints in order to experience the best views of San Diego and the surrounding area.

Your first stop should be to Cabrillo Point. At the tip of the Point Loma Peninsula, you will find the Cabrillo National Monument and the Point Loma Lighthouse. This monument is dedicated to the landing of Juan Cabrillo, which is considered to be the first European who arrived on the West Coast. From Cabrillo Point, you can enjoy stunning views that include the city skyline and San Diego Bay Bridge on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other. Depending on the time of the year you visit, you may even be able to see some gray whales.

Next, head over to Mt. Soledad where you can look down on the coastal village of La Jolla, the main focus of San Diego. With the 360-degree views, Mt. Soledad is certainly the ideal spot for a relaxing afternoon picnic. From this mountain, you can view the ocean to the west, the town of La Jolla below and the San Diego city skyline to the south as well as the majestic mountains to the east and north. If you are here on a clear day, you can even see down to Mexico.

Another excellent spot to enjoy views of San Diego is the Torrey Pines State Reserve. Here you will be able to enjoy plenty of hiking trails through the beautiful Torrey Pines and the breathtaking ocean views below. This park features over 2000 acres of coastal bluffs and nearly 8 miles of trails with plenty of scenic overlooks.

To take in the scenery of San Diego be sure to visit the Embarcadero, which separates the bay from downtown. Here you can view the large cruise ships, the Star of India and the USS Midway. Stop for a meal at Anthony’s Fish Grotto, which offers you excellent harbor views while you eat. Here you will also find the local restaurant and fish market. This is the only way to get close to the ocean without actually getting your feet wet.

Lastly, you should visit the Presidio, which offers plenty of sites and is worth visiting for the museum alone. You can also enjoy the scenic views of the Mission Valley, Mission Bay and other nearby San Diego areas.
