You might want to bring that replica Indiana Jones hat with you on a trip to Egypt but the leather jackets is probably a bad idea! Africa is well known for being the hottest continent in the world and Egypt is certainly taking advantage of that when it comes to tourism. However, the country has been blessed with a rich history full of mystery and intrigue which lends itself to the great popularity it has. Whilst you probably aren’t going to discover a new tomb of a forgotten pharaoh the enjoyment you can have is by exploring what has been unearthed.
Consider these destinations; Cairo, Alexandria and Luxor. Those places are classic examples of places in Egypt which hold much of the nations fascinating history. Have your wife, partner, friend, whoever, be an unwilling participant in your adventure by putting them behind the camera to catalogue your holiday.
Cairo is a city which many people will already be familiar with, Egypt’s capital city is home to over 16 million people and some of the world’s most precious historic sites. The obvious attractions include the Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx which are the only Seven Wonders of the Ancient World that are left. Aside from those places simple walks through the city to areas like Old Cairo is like taking a ride in a time machine.
Alexandria was founded by none other than the Alexander the Great back in 331 BC. Located along the North Coast this city is packed with history and is also one of Egypt’s more modern cities. With the likes of Alexander the Great and Mustafa Kamel having walked the streets of this ancient city you can expect there to be many monuments and landmarks which honour their achievements and conquests.
Luxor is by far the most unique and religious destination in Egypt when it comes to exploring the country’s great history. Nearby you will find the Valley of the Queens and the Valley of the Kings which is the site where the tomb of Tutankhamen was discovered.
One of the most interesting facts which connects all these cities is that they are connected by the stretching reach of the River Nile which is seen as the longest river in the world. If you are really keen on adventure then why not buy a dingy and sail your way up and down the Nile visiting various cities along the way, though that isn’t a good idea unless you are extremely qualified and experienced rafter, even then it probably isn’t the best idea!
