Formula 1: Malaysia Grand Prix
Where: Kuala Lumpur
When: March
The smell of gasoline and burning rubber combined with the screaming sound of Formula One cars flying by is an intoxicating mix and the Sepang International Circuit at Sepang near Kuala Lumpur is a great place to experience it. Relatively new to the Formula One World Championship, this location was first included in 1999. Winners since then include Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso & Kimi Raikonen.

Golf: The Masters
Where: Augusta, Georgia, USA
When: April
The Masters is one of the most prestigious events in the golf calendar and is the first of the majors to be played each year. Unlike the other majors, the Masters is held at the same location every year, the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta. This tournament is famous for the immaculate course and the tradition of a green jacket being awarded to the winner. Famous past winners include Gary Player, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Seve Ballasteros.

American Football: Dallas Cowboys

The wealthiest American Football team in the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys are one of the most instantly recognisable names in world sport. They are also one of the most successful teams of all time, having appeared in a record 8 Superbowls. You can see them at the 80,000 seater Cowboys Stadium in Arlington Texas but make sure you get your tickets in advance as every game is a sell-out.

Football: Boca Juniors
Where: Boca, Buenos Aires, Argentina
When: August – May
Boca Juniors is the most famous club in the history of Argentinian football, having won a staggering 47 national and international titles. They play their football at the 49,000 capacity Estadio Alberto J Armando, nicknamed La Bombonera (the Chocolate Box) due to its shape. The atmosphere is indescribable and so vociferous that the Boca fans are often referred to as La Doce, or the 12th man.

Horse Racing: Melbourne Cup
Where: Melbourne, Australia
When: November
One of the main events on the racing calendar, The Melbourne Cup is Australia’s major thoroughbred horse race. It’s held at the Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne on the first Tuesday in November and is one of the richest turf races in the world. This famous race has a rich history which goes back as far as 1861, when the inaugural race was held.
