I always wanted to take a holiday away from Europe but still as cheap as Europe but I realise that it would be a difficult task. After much consideration I noticed that the Canary Islands are closer to the African continent whilst actually still being part of Spain, and as a result Europe. The added bonus to all this is that holidays there are low cost too.

I put all the names of the Canary Islands into a hat and was going to pick one out and then I would look at a resort one that island. As the excitement built up I decided to make myself a scotch on the rocks to steady my nerves and when I returned to room the room where I left the hat I noticed it had been stolen. After a few moments I realised I had actually entered the wrong room, so after I rediscovered the hat I proceeded with my random selection which was Gran Canaria.
My next task was to find the resort that had the most to offer in terms of fun both day and night as well as the best beach on offer. I found out that the south coast was where all the main resorts are located on the island. The biggest resort in the region was Playa del Ingles which led me to believe there would be much more choice of accommodation from luxury to budget rooms.
After choosing my resort I began to investigate to make sure that it has all the modern facilities we tourists have come to expect. The resort is quite large and offers easy transport to neighbouring towns which is good if you’re like me and appreciate not been stuck in one place whilst on holiday. There are plenty of good places to eat in Playa del Ingles many of which are situated on the seafront offering great ocean views whilst you dine.
One key attraction that was consistent with resorts along the south coast was the impressive Maspalomas dunes. The dunes cover a vast amount of space and act as a mini desert on the island, and it is believed that the dunes are the result of sands that have blown over from the Sahara in nearby North Africa. The dunes have white sands that seem to go on for miles, but they are still worth a walk as at the end you should find a beautiful beach where you can enjoy various water sports, such as jet skiing and paragliding.
There seemed so much to do in Playa del Ingles like shops and even a golf course that it would have been crazy not to visit, but the icing on the cakes was that there were plenty of bars and clubs to choose from on the evening to conclude the day.
