If you’re planning a holiday in Europe this year I’m sure your list already contains some of the popular holiday destination. Ibiza, Menorca and Benidorm are just some of the well known and highly popular places to spend a week in the sun but if you want to try something new why now consider heading to Fuengirola.

Fuengirola is a Costa del Sol holiday resort that offers guaranteed sunshine, idyllic beaches and the usual supply of holiday activities and attractions. One of the best things about Fuengirola is that it is relatively unspoilt by large scale tourism, it doesn’t have the same mass appeal as say Ibiza but it still offers everything you could want from a holiday destination. The resort itself is quite busy, with a large number of high rise hotels and apartments to choose from. There is castle which overlooks the resort that was built in the early 11th century, a slice of history for anyone looking forward to a sightseeing tour whilst enjoying their holiday.

Fuengirola also offers a few, surprise treats for anyone choosing to venture there on holiday. Along with all the usual holiday treats the resort has a large zoo which contains a wide selection of wild animals. The best thing about the zoo is the lack of cages, all animals’ life in replicas of their natural habitat which often resemble a tropical rainforest. There are two guided tours which run every day, ideal for families with children who want to learn more about their favourite creatures. During the peak holiday season the zoo stays open until 1am so visitors get a chance to observe some of the nocturnal animals.

The nightlife in Fuengirola is quite vibrant however it is not on the same scale as resorts such as Benidorm or San Antonio. There is a wide selection of bars and nightclubs to choose from including karaoke bars for the brave souls among us! Live music events are common in Fuengirola along with performances by top name DJ’s.

It seems a shame to travel to another country and not take advantage of the local cuisine. Fuengirola offers the best in traditional Spanish dishes from paella to tapas selections. If you prefer to stick to a more familiar menu the resort offers a range of international cuisines along with a selection of fast food restaurants if you can’t live without a Big Mac.

Fuengirola is a fantastic place to spend your summer break, it may not be as well known as some of the more popular resorts but it offers just as much. Next time your booking your annual break, consider Fuengirola, the only challenge will be trying to pronounce it!
