Mardi Gras isn’t the only time to plan a trip to the Big Easy. New Orleans offers residents and visitors plenty of sports action throughout the winter season. Check out basketball, football and even a little action in the ring with the WWE, in between stops at jazz clubs and restaurants. Here are a few brief tidbits on what this historic, southern city has to offer in the coming weeks. Be sure to go online to purchase a pair of New Orleans tickets today!
Basketball fans will want to mark their calendars for December 16 when the Detroit Pistons meet up with the New Orleans Hornets at the New Orleans Arena. The Hornets have been holding strong to some of their opponents on the court like the Dallas Mavericks and the Toronto Raptors, but they will have to keep their rally going if they want to outscore the Pistons on home turf. All-star point guard Chris Paul has been essential to the team’s successes, managing to score hoops from just about any point on the floor. But the Pistons also have a couple aces in the hole with Rip Hamilton and Ben Gordon. Tune in or watch live from your seats in the bleachers when the Pistons meet the Hornets in New Orleans.
The Hornets will have their hands full on the court two days later when the Nuggets bring a little more competition to the court at the New Orleans Arena. The Nuggets have been looking golden this season thanks to the help of rookie point guard Ty Lawson as well as Carmelo Anthony, who was recently named NBA player of the week. The Nuggets are off to a lively start this season and seem to have picked up where they left off last year. The question is: will they be able to hold off Chris Paul and the Hornets? Check out all of the action on Dec. 18.
It’s not all about basketball this time of year. Football fans are gearing up for the game between the Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints. On Dec. 19 the two teams will clash on the field at the Superdome and will offer all spectators a very spirited NFL game. The Saints have polished both their offensive and defensive tactics this season and are proving to be mighty tough competition on the field. Quarterback Drew Brees is helping drive the Saints’ top scoring run in the NFL and Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell lead a pretty mean rushing attack.
The other aspect of the Saints’ offensive comes with wide receivers Marques Colston and Devery Henderson, tight end Jermey Chockey and running back Reggie Bush. The Dallas Cowboys are also looking fairly solid this season, and are looking to quarterback Tony Romo to help keep them afloat during the more competitive matchups. Future wins will also depend on the success of offensive lineman Kyle Kosier.
Get ready to cheer on New Orleans basketball and football teams this winter and keep up with the events schedule for the Big Easy in the coming months.
