As the weather stars to cool down, the excitement is only getting hotter in the city of New Orleans. This city is known for its variety of entertainment options, but sports fans in particular are going to find something to enjoy during the winter months. Whether you love basketball, football or some other sport, you are sure to find an event to enjoy in the Big Easy. A few events, specifically detailed below, are worth more than a passing glance. To find out all the attractions in New Orleans, take a look at all of the New Orleans tickets available online.
On Dec. 30, basketball fans will want to head to New Orleans Arena to be a part of the action as the New Orleans Hornets host the Miami Heat. The Hornets had a rough start to the season, losing three out of their first four matchups, but they have been looking to rebound ever since. Led by point guard Chris Paul and power forward David West, the Hornets are a definite offensive threat. The team made the playoffs last season with a record of 49-33. In contrast, the Heat started the 2009-10 season with the opposite record as the Hornets, 3-1. Dwyane Wade has been a top scorer, and it will be important for the Hornets’ defense to contain him. Miami finished last season, however, with a worse record than the Hornets at 43-39.
Another game worth checking out at the New Orleans Arena is the Hornets game against the Houston Rockets on Jan. 2. The Rockets started the 2009-10 season hot, and they are going to want to continue that against the Hornets. The Hornets, though, will probably have more than a few tricks up their sleeves. The teams faced each other four times last season, with the Rockets coming out on top three times. The Rockets also made it to the conference semifinals last season, losing to the eventual champions the Los Angeles Lakers. To grab the victory this season, the Hornets will have to contain Rockets point guard Aaron Brooks and small forward Trevor Ariza.
Fans who want to take a break from basketball for a little football should head over to the Superdome on New Year’s Day (Jan. 1). Fans from all over can start 2010 by being a part of this year’s Sugar Bowl. The Sugar Bowl selects teams third this year, behind the Orange Bowl and the Fiesta Bowl, meaning the competition at this event is going to be tough. Last year, it was an exciting game between Utah and Alabama that brought die-hard fans to the Superdome. This year, a number of teams are competing for a spot in the Sugar Bowl, and each week brings the final matchup closer. One of the best parts about having a team play in the Sugar Bowl is getting to enjoy the city of New Orleans before and after the game. In a city like the Big Easy, the fun continues morning, noon and night.
