I quickly came to realise that would be where I choose to live if I ever make my fortune in way or another, sadly I’m still waiting for that to happen. My next aim was to experience that feeling if only for a short time, though of course money was definitely going to be an object. There are numerous sunny destinations within Europe and the Mediterranean Sea particularly, but none with the landscape that I was looking for. When I almost gave up I realised all the volcanic activity that had occurred in the Canary Islands in the past, and after looking at each of the islands I noticed that Gran Canaria has the least flat land.
Along the south coast is where the best weather is enjoyed with temperatures rarely going below 25°C. My research didn’t stop there I noticed that the landscape had been effected by volcanic activity centuries ago, as are the rest of the Canary Islands. This volcanic activity means that there are many valleys situated in the south, but it couldn’t stop the growth of tourism. There are miles and miles of resorts located on the south coast many of which have been built on the slopes of the valleys. The most popular resorts in this area include La Verga, Puerto Rico and La Playa de Morgan and they have secluded little valleys with their very own cove like beaches. It appears that you can wake up to an elevated view which will allow you to see for miles, then during the day head down to clean, sandy beaches and take a dip in the turquoise waters.
The best thing about Gran Canaria is that it won’t cost as much as buying a million dollar condo somewhere in the US, in fact because it’s such a well visited place there are competitive prices which means bargain deals. My dream of watching the sun rise and set way off into the distance can be completed with a swift click. What sweetens the deal is that there is plenty to do in the many fantastic resorts that line the south coast, and they all offer great facilities and reasonably priced accommodation. I enjoy plenty of fun activities to take part in under the sun and most of the resort has water sports like windsurfing and paragliding on offer. There are also some great boat excursions that will take tourists out into the Atlantic Ocean where you can see the many different types of colourful marine life that inhabit the waters.
It may not be P Diddy’s mansion out in the Hamptons or anything like that but I feel it is as close as I’ll get, but even then I don’t think it’s very far off.
