The Serengeti National Park in Tanzania plays host to one of the planet’s most spectacular wildlife events – the Great Migration.
A massive swathe of plains animals are compelled to sweep across the rolling Serengeti and on into the Masai Mara regardless of what is in their path. Danger is ever present for these huge herds of zebra and wildebeest – on land in the form of gathering numbers of watchful, hungry lion, leopard and cheetah; and in the water crossings lie some of the largest crocodiles in Africa.
The captive panorama is magical to wildlife observers and keen photographers alike and in this area there is excellent luxury safari accommodation in which to feed the body whilst the spirit is uplifted by daily witness of the superb game viewing.
Klein’s Camp is a private and remote camp located on the northern border of the Serengeti National Park and set just below the crest of the Kuka Hills. Due to this elevated position the camp overlooks the corridor of land that links the Serengeti to the Masai Mara and as such has full view of the migrating herds across the rolling grasslands during the Migration.
From Arusha Airport a number light aircraft services operate a morning scheduled flight to Klein’s own airstrip where guests are met and enjoy a leisurely one hour game drive to the camp.
Aside from the months of the migration this camp, set in a rugged, rolling landscape gives breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and valleys and enjoys excellent game viewing.
The camp comprises of ten intimate cottages constructed of white washed local stone with wooden floors, classically furnished interiors with comfortable, canopied double beds and en-suite facilities. A private veranda offers a place to relax and survey the excellent views of the surrounding landscape.
The large, welcoming communal area is open sided and the bar /seated area with deep leather armchairs around a central fireplace (perfect for those cooler evenings) and dining room, serving excellent, freshly prepared meals. There is a pool, ideal for a refreshing dip between game drives, deck area and small safari shop to tempt guests with locally made Maasai crafts.
Whilst children are very welcome at Klein’s Camp regrettably those aged under five years of age cannot be accommodated on game drives, however, a child minding service can be arranged.
At Klein’s Camp the twice daily game drives by 4 x 4 vehicle are taken in the camp’s wilderness concession or in the Serengeti National Park. In fact the camp is the only lodge to offer night drives and game walk in the wilderness concession. The night drives can offer a unique opportunity to see the nocturnal creatures of the area. The game drives are all accompanied by Maasi trackers and community visits can be arranged for guests that want to explore further the local culture and community projects. Bush walks, accompanied by an armed guide and Maasai tracker can also be organised to provide a different game viewing experience.
