Why not look at holiday cottages in the Cotswolds? This area encompasses well-known cities such as Bath, famed for its beautiful buildings crafted from Bath stone. In Bath, you’ll find everything you’d expect in a modern city; culture, arts and some great shopping. Bath also has many old-fashioned pubs, so if real ale is your thing, you’ll find plenty here to quench your thirst.
The Cotswolds also boasts the very beautiful Cheltenham, as well as lots of pretty little villages like Castle Combe and Burford.
The honey-coloured limestone which is local to the area and used in many of the houses gives the whole region a kind of uniformed architecture and beauty.
Another feature common in the Cotswolds is the ‘Drystone walls’ you will notice everywhere dividing fields. These walls have no cement holding them together, quite amazing really when you realise that they were built as far back as the 18th century.
There are many hidden gems to uncover in the Cotswolds, not least of all the little villages that are pretty and full of charm. Hidden treasures include Biddestone, Painswick, Winchcombe and little churches that remain unspoilt by time such as the one at Northleach that is often referred to as the Catherdral of the Cotswolds.
Don’t forget the towns of Cirencester, Stow-on-the-Wold and Chipping Norton for their excellent shopping facilities.
The Cotswolds is the perfect location for holiday cottages, and there are many of them here. But perhaps you would prefer to explore somewhere north of the border? Scotland has some beautiful holiday cottages and lots to do.
If you stay near one of the major cities such as Edinburgh or Glasgow you will find endless entertainment whatever your requirements. Edinburgh has fantastic history and architecture; you can spend an afternoon exploring the delights of Edinburgh Castle before jaunting down the hill and sampling some of the delightful pubs that line the roads of the city.
Glasgow has everything you could ask for in a city; a vibrant arts and culture scene, as well as fantastic shops should you wish to shop until you drop, and some world-class restaurants.
Holiday cottages offer a great way to experience all of this and more, and return at night to a cosy home away from home.
