Cricklewood lies in a valley inbetween five hills. In the times when the whole area was covered in thick woods, five streams used to run down the hills where they meet. All these rivers are now culverted. The name was given by the Saxons, which meant ‘wood with an uneven outline’. It was recorded initially in 1295 in its normanised version of ‘Le Crickeldwode’. Then it was a small settlement located on Edgware Road.

It was the biggest cinema in Europe when it opened before World War 2. A large dome tops the huge auditorium. There is the 103 foot high landmark tower, lit up in neon red at night. The State has hosted The Beatles and Louis Armstrong to name just a couple of many.

A few minutes walk away is Kilburn where you will find the contemporary Tricycle Theatre that was founded in 1980, and was refurbished in the same decade after a fire. The Triangle has become one of London’s most popular theatres. It houses work-shops, recording studios, and a cafe bar. Its a cool place to be with the arty and cultural crowd.

Cricklewood has its own railway station, and has three local London Underground Stations; Willesden Green, Kilburn, and West Hampstead. If you are travelling by car, then Cricklewood is located on one of the main arterial roads out of London, going North London towards Junction 1 of the M1.

Cricklewood has been home to many famous people over the years such as Ken Livingstone, the author Zadie Smith, actor Jimmy Nail, Peter O’Toole and Patsy Kensit lives on the Cricklewood borders.
