Fig it Out for Yourself

Out on the Cypriot west coast is a lively little town I like to call Protaras, I like to call it that because that's its actual name. The town is blessed with a great beach in the form of Fig Tree Bay which has fine sands and supreme turquoise waters that wash up against them.

If you have been everywhere and not found what you like then you haven’t tried Protaras, well actually if you have tried Protaras but the point I’m making is that the coastal town might just be the perfect town for you. With that being said you would require some convincing that Protaras really does offer a significant amount for tourists to enjoy during their stay. Well who doesn’t like the idea of a beautiful beach that is so great that it received a European Blue Flag for its cleanliness, you can’t say that doesn’t impress you. If you run your hands through the sand you will only find more sand, unless you go too far and you might unsettle an unsuspecting sunbather. At Fig Tree Bay there will be plenty of refreshments available for people who might be getting dehydrated by the hot climate.

Protaras has grown along with the masses of tourism over the years and has definitely benefitted as a result. Its growth has seen it become one of the most popular resorts in the south east, even up staging nearby Famagusta city.

If you want to fill your camera with pictures other than you and your family or friends, then you might be interested in visiting the Church of Ayios Ilias. The Church sits behind the resort and is located up a small hill where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the whole area. If sightseeing isn’t your baggage then you might want to enjoy a bit of an adrenaline rush then you can enjoy wakeboarding, parasailing, jet skiing, water skiing, pedal boats and banana boats on Fig Tree Beach which provides plenty of entertainment during the day. If you are looking for a bit more peace and quiet then you may be interested in visiting Cape Greco, which is a secluded beach that sticks out on the south coast and provides plenty of natural beauty for tourist to relax in. From the cliffs in the area you can get some great views. Locals believe that sometimes you can see the ‘Ayia Napa Sea Monster’, but I think you have more chance seeing the Loch Ness Monster drinking tequila shots from Bigfoot’s belly button in one of the bars in Protaras.

If you are looking for a lively night out whilst visiting Protaras then you may want to consider making the short journey to Ayia Napa where you can enjoy long nights with drinks flowing endlessly. Who knows you might catch the Bogeyman out on his stag do.
