Bazaar of Qom is visited by a large number of foreign travelers to purchase various Persian specialties including some sweets called Sohan, prayer rugs and silk carpets. The market place is famous for some top-quality silk carpets woven and sold here.
This bazaar does have a long historical value that attracts many people when they visit Iran. It consists of the old as well as the new sectors. The old and original marketplace is located at the east of Taleqani Avenue, starting from the limits of Paminar running toward north. It is further extended and added with the new sector running toward north.
You can visit the old section of Qom Bazaar to explore a range of surrounding buildings and shops dating back to pre-Safavid period. At the same time, the extended sectors include a set of monuments bearing the architecture and arcades of the Safavid and Qajar eras. However, both sectors contain a number of structures possessing huge amount of historical and cultural values.
Old Section of Qom Bazaar
When you are at this town, you can observe the entry point of Razavieh School, Chehel Sotun Mosque, and Sabuniha Mosque by visiting the older sector of the bazaar. This part also contains the minarets and porch as the remnants of the historical Qeysarieh School.
New Section of the Bazaar
The newer part consists of the commercial area of the city along with the Haj Asqar Khan Bath. It also includes the surrounding alleys in aggregate and a number of buildings being used as religious venues. These structures are still active and being used for carrying of various religious activities. You can even find some specific sectors of the marketplace dating back to Saljuqi and Eilkhani eras.
Nearby Historical Monuments
While shopping in the commercial area, you can include a set of ancient monuments in your schedule. You can visit the historical Hashti Building located near the mausoleum of Khak Faraj. The structure contains a well along with a hillock built on in and believed to be built in the vicinity of one of the three ancient and largest fire-temples of the Zoroastrians.
Also the tomb of Masumeh, the sister of Imam Reza, the 8th Imam of Twelver Shiites, is another famous attraction of Qom for which each year millions of people set off for this town to go on pilgrimage and pray to her for whatever needs they may have. This shrine is the second largest in the entire country and is situated next to one of the most famous religious schools where clergies study in Qom.
