One of the most prestigious neighborhoods in Austin, the Westlake Hills area boasts luxurious homes and gorgeous landscapes. As you stroll through its rolling hills, you’ll find stunning views all around, with Hill Country to the west and the downtown skyline to the east.

Just off of MoPac and Loop 360, Westlake Hills is technically its own suburb, but its location near downtown makes it a seamless addition to the city. The area grew rapidly during the 70s and 80s and now has a population of just over 3,000 residents.

Tree-lined streets, perfectly manicured lawns, and Spanish-style architecture are characteristic of this neighborhood. Many homes put a focus on an open atmosphere with swimming pools, outdoor barbeques and multi-level decks and patios. Many city ordinances keep this neighborhood beautiful, with restrictions against things like high rise shadows and a clutter of signs.

Bee Cave Road winds through Westlake Hills and is dotted with shopping centers, favorite Austin restaurants and more. The popular Las Palomas serves Mexican cuisine while the family-owned Bistro 88 offers Euro-Asian dishes. There are also plenty of outdoor barbeque venues and laid-back diners throughout the neighborhood. Finally, Wildwood Art Cafe is a trendy spot that serves wheat-free menu items.

Westlake Hills also has several shops like Cornerstone and Breed & Co., both of which sell a variety of items ranging from home furnishings to specialty gifts. If you’re in the mood to shop, the nearby Barton Creek Square Mall boasts a wide variety of options from large department stores like Dillard’s and Macy’s to trendy places like Banana Republic and Armani Exchange.

To the east of Westlake Hills is Zilker Park, which provides plenty of recreational opportunity for residents. Families can visit here on a sunny afternoon to picnic, kayak, swim, or just relax. Other recreational areas include the nearby Wild Basic Wilderness Area, a nature preserve with hiking trails that wind throughout, as well as the Barton Creek Greenbelt.

The Barton Creek Golf Resort and Spa also makes its home here. Designed by golf greats Arnold Palmer, Ben Crenshaw, and Tom Fazio, the course is perfect for both beginners and pros.

Westlake Hills is home to one of the highest ranked school districts in Austin, the Eanes Independent School District. Its known throughout the state for its high test scores, excellent teacher to student ratio, and focus on parent involvement. Its graduation rate is nearly 100% and it’s been recognized both statewide and nationally for it’s academic and extra-curricular achievements.
