Travelling around Europe with friends is often the dream of many a young person. Spending 2 glorious summer months Euro-hopping from place to place, camping, staying in hostels, meeting new people, this is the kind of trip on everyone’s list. There is not much to think about when planning this sort of trip as Europe is such a small area of land compared to other parts of the world. It is also possible to easily cross borders in most western European countries; ability to move from place to place very freely is very simple.
However one thing that you may want to think about it is what kind of transport you want to be using. The main methods include trains, buses, or driving which can include car rental or driving from the UK. Having your own transport will give a completely different experience than taking public transport, therefore you need to decide which one you want to use. Benefits of driving, either with car rental or bringing your own car include:
-You have the ability to go anywhere and discover the more off the beaten track places that you may not see otherwise. Not only this, you can do this on your own time as opposed to being restricted by timetables.
-With car rental you can pick the car up in one place and drop it off in another, therefore you have more flexibility with where you go and you do not have to factor in the time needed to drive home again.
-You can pack the car full of everything you need and don’t need to worry too much about squeezing everything in your backpack. Having a car is ideal for a group of 3-4 people travelling together as it will most likely end up cheaper than getting buses or trains. Furthermore, if there are a larger number of people you can rent 2 cars, or car rental may work out cheaper if you go for a seven seater. You can all take turns in driving and so no one person has to drive the whole time.
Getting public transport such as the train has its benefits too, these include:
-Relaxing during travel, you don’t have to worry about driving responsibilities or reading maps. Another positive point is that you do not have to look for a parking space when staying in a big city.
-You can often meet other travelers whilst on long journeys, so getting trains or buses would be more ideal for smaller groups or lone travelers. This method would also be a cheaper approach than car rental for one or two people.
Don’t hesitate, book your euro-hopping, road tripping trip today!
