When you decide to arrange a vacation for yourself or your family, you have to first decide the budget. This budget will determine how far away from home you are able to travel, what type of accommodation you can afford, and even how long you stay away from home. Depending on where you are headed, your activities on the trip may be limited by your budget as well.
You have to decide whether you want to splurge and go further away from home for the ultimate vacation, or find ways to budget and save money. There is also the option of aiming for the middle by setting a budget but stretching to get as much out of it as possible
Set Your Max
The first thing you have to do is determine the absolute maximum budget for your vacation. This is the top amount that you can possibly get your hands on for the trip. You may not want to spend this amount, but it is the absolute most you can afford at this time.
Your max will rule out a lot of vacation options if you do not look for ways to save money. For instance, if you want to book Bali luxury accommodation but your max budget is not large enough to handle the air tickets, you may need to look for discount flight packages to make that trip happen.
Your Top Five
Make a list of your top five vacation destinations and five things you would love to do on vacation. The goal is to find at least one place on the destination list that matches up with the five things you would love to do. For example, you may decide to rent villa in Bali if you want to relax on the beach, hike and participate in water sports.
Grasp Reality
Now that you know the maximum budget and have an idea of what you would like to do or where you might like to go, it is time to talk with a travel agent or do some research online. You want to get a realistic view of what all elements of your preferred trip may cost, plus consider an overview of some of your secondary choices. This will put you in touch with reality so you can determine whether you can really afford to rent villa in Bali or enjoy that Bali luxury accommodation.
Compromises
Often, you can compromise on smaller details of a trip in order to get the larger things you want.
