Beijing – Stylish Boutique Hotels and a Night out to Remember!
Hotel G Beijing is the first of an exclusive beijing boutique hotel brand launched by Hong Kong-based real estate private equity management firm Gaw Capital and a model to be rolled out in selected cities of Asia. For more information, please visit http://www.hotel-g.com.
Whether your perfect night out consists of cocktails and dancing at a trendy club, a stopover at a popular pub or a more intimate dining experience, Beijing can deliver.
This ever-evolving city, which is now home to nearly 20 million, has some outstanding nightlife for those planning to stay in Beijing the next time they travel China.
Popular places to eat, drink and party include Sunlitan, 798 Art Zone, Houhai, Chaoyang park, Gongti, Wudaokou and Nanluoguxiang.
Sunlitan
Sunlitan entertainment district is perhaps the most recognized of these and remains one of the top haunts for tourists and expats living in Beijing (also being home to foreign embassies).
It hosts some of the best bars, clubs and luxury boutique hotels in Beijing. Situated in eastern Beijing, in the Chaoyang district, Sunlitan Bar Street not only features bars and clubs but international brands such as Apple and the world’s largest Adidas store.
Famous bars in Sunlitan include Lan Gui Fang and Milan Club in the north and Lava Lounge and Mix and Vicks in the western area near the Worker’s Stadium. The south Sunlitan district has been demolished to pave the way for new developments.
Aside from the clubs and pubs, many of the Beijing boutique hotels in the Sunlitan district also boast great in-house bars and dining opportunities. Some of the best reviews have come out of the 1960s influenced retro-chic Hotel G, which offers a lively meeting place for young executives in its Scarlett Wine Bar and Restaurant.
Relax overly a leisurely selection of tapas and a fine wine list. Alternatively head to Hotel G’s renowned Morio and experience namesake and head chef Morio Sakayori’s acclaimed Japanese cuisine.
On the topic of fine Japanese food, Jazz-Ya Bar serves a great Japanese meal and is an absolute must for jazz lovers.
Houhai
Another great place to sample Beijing’s nightlife is Houhai in the Xicheng district. This leafy lakeside district north of Tiananmen Square, has really taken off in recent years.
An intriguing mix of ancient Chinese and modern western culture, Houhai Bar Street boasts trendy bars and pubs. These include Bars No Name, Left Bank and Sex and da City.
Finding a place to stay in Beijing’s Hou Hai district may be a bit trickier. Unlike the plethora of luxury hotels in Sunlitan, there are few stylish boutique hotels in Hou Hai. Bamboo Garden Hotel and Lu Song Yuan Hotel are full of character and open to western guests.
Wudaokou
A cheaper but still completely authentic taste of Beijing nightlife lies in the Wudaokou district of Beijing. If your stay in Beijing is on a tight budget, then this area about 10km from the centre of the city deserves a look-in.
Home to universities and research institutes Wudaokou boasts a large international student population (and yes, not surprisingly, an equally large dose of bars and nightclubs!). Check out Bar Loco, Pyro, Lush and Propaganda for a start.
While there certainly isn’t the range of stylish boutique hotels found in Sunlitan, Wudaokou has some decent discount hotels in Beijing such as Wudaokou Hotel and Jin Ma Spring Hotel.
Like all the great cities of the world, Beijing has thriving nightlife. There’s hip hop and jazz clubs or relaxed bars tucked inside its stylish boutique hotels – and yes, if you must, there’s still plenty of karaoke.
